Privacy Policy

Overview
CosmosIn60 ("we", "our", "us") operates the website at cosmosin60.com and the CosmosIn60 Android app. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
The website and the app are different in one important way: the website carries no advertising, and the app does. Where a section below applies to only one of them, it says so. Anything not marked applies to both.
Data We Collect
CosmosIn60 is designed to collect as little personal data as possible. We do not require user accounts, sign-ups, or personal information to use the website or the app.
On-device storage (app): the app keeps your settings, your chosen city, your reading streak, and whether you have Pro on your own device. None of it is sent to our servers, and it is deleted when you uninstall the app.
Local storage (browser): We use your browser's localStorage to cache API responses for faster page loads. This data stays on your device and is never sent to our servers. No personal information is stored.
Server logs: Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may automatically log basic request data such as IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited. These logs are managed by Cloudflare under their privacy policy.
Cookies (website)
The cosmosin60.com website does not serve advertisements and does not set advertising cookies or use third-party ad networks.
An admin-only authentication cookie is used solely for content management and is not set for regular visitors.
Advertising in the Android App
The app shows ads. We use Google AdMob to display banner, interstitial, and app-open advertisements. This is what keeps the app free. If you subscribe to Pro, the app stops showing ads.
What AdMob collects: your device's advertising ID, along with device and general location information (derived from your IP address, not from your device's GPS), and information about the ads you are shown and interact with. This is used to serve and measure advertising, and to detect fraudulent activity. See how Google uses information from partner sites and apps.
The app does not request access to your device location. To show the sky above you, the app asks you to pick a city from a built-in list. No GPS or network location permission is requested, and none is collected.
Resetting your advertising ID: you can reset or delete it at any time in Android under Settings → Privacy → Ads. Deleting it stops personalised advertising on your device.
Pro Subscription (Android app)
Pro is an optional Google Play subscription (monthly or annual) that removes ads and unlocks extra content. You do not need an account with us to buy it: it belongs to your Google Play account, which is how it is restored when you reinstall the app or use another device.
Payment: Google Play processes the payment under Google's privacy policy. We never receive your card or other payment details.
What we keep: the app asks Google Play whether you are subscribed and remembers the answer on your device. We do not send your purchase to our own servers. Firebase Analytics records that a purchase happened, and which plan, as part of the app's usage statistics; it is not linked to your name or contact details.
Cancelling: the subscription renews automatically until you cancel it in Google Play (Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions). You keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for.
Consent & EU/UK Users
In the app: if you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the app asks for your advertising consent the first time you open it, using Google's User Messaging Platform. No ad is requested before you have answered. If you consent, you may see personalised ads; if you decline, you will still see ads, but non-personalised ones. You can change your choice at any time from the app's privacy settings.
On the website: no advertising cookies are ever set, because the website carries no advertising. For analytics, visitors from the EEA, UK, and Switzerland have analytics storage denied by default under Google Consent Mode v2, so Google Analytics runs without setting cookies in those regions.
California Residents (CPRA / CCPA)
If you are a California resident, the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) grant you specific rights over your personal information.
Categories of information we or our partners may collect: identifiers (IP address, device ID, and — in the Android app — your advertising ID) and internet activity (pages viewed, browsing behaviour, ads shown and interacted with) for analytics and, in the app, for advertising purposes; and, in the app, commercial information (that a Pro subscription was bought, recorded by Firebase Analytics). We do not collect sensitive personal information or payment details. We do not collect precise geolocation in the Android app at all; on the website, only the optional ISS Tracker feature uses it, and it stays on your device.
Sharing for targeted advertising: in the Android app, if you allow personalised ads, your advertising ID and ad interaction data are made available to Google AdMob and its advertising partners. Under the CPRA this may be considered "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising. The website does none of this.
Your rights include:
- The right to know what personal information is collected, used, shared, or sold.
- The right to delete personal information we hold about you.
- The right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising.
- The right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information: we do not sell your personal information, and we never have. On the website we do not share it for targeted advertising either. In the Android app you can opt out of personalised advertising directly — decline in the consent prompt, change your choice in the app's privacy settings, or reset your advertising ID in Android under Settings → Privacy → Ads. You will still see ads; they will be non-personalised. To make any other opt-out or privacy request, email us at hello@cosmosin60.com with the subject line "CPRA Opt-Out Request".
To exercise any other CPRA right (know / delete / correct), email us at hello@cosmosin60.com. We will verify your request and respond within 45 days, as required by law. You may also designate an authorized agent to act on your behalf.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Cloudflare — Hosting and CDN. May process IP addresses for security and performance.
- Google Analytics — We use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate site usage. In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland it runs without cookies under Consent Mode v2. See Google's privacy policy for details.
- Google AdMob — Android app only. Serves the advertising that keeps the app free, and processes your advertising ID to do so. Governed by Google's privacy policy.
- Firebase — Android app only. Remote Config delivers configuration updates to the app. Firebase Analytics records how the app is used (for example, when the Daily 60 is opened) and when a Pro subscription is bought. Crashlytics sends a crash report, with device and app details, when the app crashes. None of it includes your name or contact details. Governed by Google's privacy policy.
- Google Play — Android app only. Sells and manages the Pro subscription and processes its payment. We never receive your payment details.
ISS Tracker (website)
The ISS Tracker feature may request your location through your browser to show the space station's position relative to you. This is entirely optional and your location data is only used locally in your browser — it is never sent to our servers.
Children's Privacy
CosmosIn60 is an educational website and app about space. The Android app is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email us at hello@cosmosin60.com and we will take steps to delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
